Similarly, I thought Trials of Osiris was a great way to provide endgame prizes to PvP players. I think it’s great that Shaxx has a (massive) PvP only questline that ends with a quest that gives Nightfall rewards to PvP. This brute force approach to forcing players to play PvP to get gear they really only want for their preferred mode, PvE, is clumsy. And the simple fact that now 50% of your daily Legendary Mark allotment is rooted in the daily PvP playlist means that unless you want to lose out on over 100 Marks a week, you will be playing PvP every day, like it or not.
SEPIKS PRIME DESTINY PATROL UPGRADE
My quest to upgrade my sword has turned into a snipe hunt trying to rack up PvP sword kills after I easily killed 50 majors in PvP. There’s a new Exotic shotgun bounty that looks lot like Thorn’s with increased kill stacks that are lost on death. But already I see more and more of that in The Taken King, where Bungie is forcing players to do both, even if they just want to get new gear for PvE. This happened a bit in the past games, mostly famously with the Thorn bounty which combined a tough PvE strike with a challenging PvP bounty that was practically impossible to complete for many who weren’t a fan of the competitive mode. While there are many players who prefer PvE over PvP or vice versa, Bungie seems determined to keep mixing them to the point where players are forced play both frequently in order to make progress in certain questlines. Putting so many eggs in the Raid basket is an issue, in my eyes, given the exclusivity of the content. You can infuse gear to over 300, but the only gear I’ve seen that is over 300 at this point is Raid gear.

So far in The Taken King, there does not seem to be a litany of options like that.

The most “Raid-like” was just beating high level Prison of Elders content for gear, but you could also play PvP Trials of Osiris (which is now gone) and you could use Etheric Light gotten in PoE, the Nightfall, Trials or Iron Banner to level up your gear to max level. This is actually a step back from House of Wolves, which offered many pathways to max level.
